Quail
Grove is a new company,
founded by my husband
and myself. Two years ago
we purchased a neglected
olive orchard in Napa .
The weeds were as tall
as some of the trees, and
we knew a lot of hard work
lies ahead of us. Hacking
back the thick scotch broom
that had taken over part
of the back hillside,
we uncovered an entire
row of trees we did not
know existed. That first
year was spent getting
the trees and irrigation
back into shape. With the
warmer than usual weather
in March 2004, bud break
was early, making for an
early harvest in October,
our first crop to pick,
press and bottle.
Since
olive farming was a
new endeavor for the
two of us, all our
free time went to learning
the extra virgin olive
oil business from the
ground up–so to speak.
So, you can imagine
how ecstatic we were
to learn our 100% Napa
Extra Virgin Olive
Oil won not only a
Gold Medal from the
prestigious Olive Oils
of the World competition
at the L.A. County
Fair, but also the
Best in Class Award.
It is very gratifying
to see our hard work
evolve into a world
class olive oil. However,
it is the trees that
really do the hard
work. We just make
sure they have the
tools they need. Our
careful attentiveness
to the grove assures
the optimal moment to
handpick the olives,
and quickly stone press
them. The result of this
traditional approach
is high-quality, all
natural, old world style
oil. The excellent balance
of fruit, pepper, and
pungent attributes make
this extra virgin olive
oil ideal for preparing
fresh foods or enjoying
with your favorite crusty
bread.
